Of course, that would be a horrible idea, because it would utterly terrify the cat. BUT - you can pet him. His foster mom did such an amazing job with him: while he still hides at the shelter because it's a pretty scary place for a cat (especially a shy cat), he welcomes pets and belly rubs and will nose your hand and purr purr purr purr purr.
