Monster Loves You

In addition to being our Cat of the Month for May, Big Boy was also our very first Lovable Monster.

These are cats whose adoption fees we are sponsoring in memory of our own adorable beastie, Mike Wazowski. As with our Boo Buddies in November, our May monsters are chosen because they somehow embody the spirit of the kitty we lost.

Mike was never going to win any beauty contests, but he took everything life threw at him and knocked it away with a disdainful flick of his tail. Despite an extended education at the school of hard knocks, he was a loving pet and an integral part of our family for over a decade.

These are the qualities we look for in our Lovable Monsters: kitties who haven't had the easiest time of it, but who haven't let life get them down. Fur buddies who bear the marks of their struggles with pride.

Big Boy more than fits the bill. He came in sick as a dog (if you'll forgive the expression) and his FIV made recovery that much more difficult. He had to have eye surgery to correct his stubborn eyelashes. And even when he is feeling well, he still has a bit of a chronic sniffle. And those jowls...Well, like our Mike, Big Boy isn't going to be bringing home any "pretty kitty" prizes.

But he's quite a lover and made fast friends with the kids in his new home. Life handed him lemons and, in his best cat manner, he completely ignored them and made his own way. We wish him many years of happiness with his family.
