June Shelter Cat of the Month

Because I'm such a cheater, I let my 10-year-old pick out this month's SCotM. Please keep sharing May's post, however, because both of those cats are still in the shelter *sad face.*

I heartily endorse my son's choice of Sofie as K&B's June Shelter Cat of the Month. She has a couple of strikes against her in the shelter:

  1. She is a black cat. For various reasons, black cats have trouble getting adopted.
  2. She's a bit shy. The noisy shelter environment makes her a bit nervous, so she isn't quite as outgoing as some of the other cats.

UPDATE 8/9: SOFIE HAS BEEN ADOPTED! YAY! She even got to go home with another cat from her colony, so that should help her adjust.

If you are patient, though, Sofie will make it worth your while. She is incredibly sweet, and once she comes out of her shell she will give you head bumps galore. She also really likes other cats, so she would be happy to share her new home with feline siblings.

Just look at those big eyes! You can see how curious she is. This girl is interested in everything.

Like any cat, Sofie will take some time to adjust to a new environment. Given some time to acclimate, I just know she will thrive in a home and become your best friend. At just under 5 years old, she is in the prime of life and you will have many years to enjoy one another's company and affection.

Come by Great Plains SPCA in Independence, Missouri, and check Sofie out. Remember to be patient with her - she really does love head rubs and will lean into them even if she isn't willing to rub her face on your hand when you hold it out for her to sniff. If you sit and talk gently to her, she will come down and join you on the floor after a few minutes. She's a really loving cat, just nervous about her current environment.

Be Sofie's hero - adopt! or donate! or share!
